How to Notice the First Signs of Each Season

Phenology is the timing of recurring life events
Phenology is the study of when recurring events happen in the lives of plants and animals. Bud opening, flowering, insect emergence, frog calls, nesting activity, migration, fruit ripening, leaf color, and dormancy are all examples of seasonal events, often called phenophases.
These events do not follow one universal four-season calendar. Rainfall, temperature, day length, elevation, latitude, coastlines, and local habitat shape timing. Begin with what changes where you live rather than importing dates or seasonal expectations from another region.

Relationships are questions to investigate, not automatic proof of cause. Compare several years before describing a local event as early or late, and use long-term scientific datasets for broader conclusions. Your first year's record is a baseline for noticing future change.
